My friend Emma from Down Under has graciously sent me an article she wrote about her native Australia. Before she swam into my radar I had no reality on Australia at all and thanks to her wonderful articles, I am finding that I really want to go visit and am planning a trip with my cute hubby.
Since I know that you are always interested in learning about new and exciting places, I am convinced that you will find this next article riveting.
Here is another of her articles with tips and advice on where to stay in Australia to maximize the pleasure of your stay and fully understand what accommodations might be best for you.
The Coziest Places to Stay in Australia
Emma Lawson
Traveling to Australia is one awesome adventure. However, if your idea of adventure is hiking for hours and then sleeping under the stars surrounded by numerous dangerous animals, then you have probably watched one too many Indiana Jones movies.
By ‘adventure’ we’re referring to new and fun experiences, which surely require a great deal of energy. The best way to accumulate the energy needed for exploring Down Under is to stay in a cozy place, have a good night sleep, a warm shower and tasty breakfast.
There are many types of accommodations in Australia, ranging from budget backpacker hostels all the way to luxurious hotels. We’ll try to narrow them down to the most comfortable options.
Lodges
Lodges are facilities located in nature and designed to evoke the feeling of closeness with it. The building is usually built of natural materials, such as stone, wood and thatch.
Lodges in Australia are especially fascinating because of the country’s superb natural assets. Besides the virtue of remoteness, this type of accommodation offers a unique intimacy and really comfortable rooms. Consistent with their eco-conscious décor, Australian lodges offer organically produced and perfectly crafted foods.
Resorts
A resort is a collection of one- or two-story accommodation facilities. In Australia, you will find a large number of beach resorts, due to its vast coastline and numerous offshore islands. One of the largest benefits of resorts is that they usually feature various other amenities and services such as kids’ clubs, multiple pools, spa centers, and yoga or luxury retreats. Resorts Down Under range from moderately priced to very expensive.
Hotels
A hotel is the most common type of accommodation in Australia. The biggest benefit of a hotel, regardless of its star number, is that you have everything available, from room service to laundry. You can worry about your itinerary instead of these mundane things.
Besides the independent hotels, Australia is home to many famous luxury hotel chains, such as Four Seasons, Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Hyatt and InterContinental.
Boutique Hotels
Boutique hotels are 5-star accommodation options that provide everything a normal hotel does, but in a unique way. They’re usually very small and exclusive but they justify their prices in many ways.
These establishments are most frequently located in cities, which makes them a great accommodation option for when you want to enjoy Australian metropolises. Some of the boutique hotels in Sydney, for instance, are located in heritage-listed buildings, which makes them much more appealing and cozy.
Glamping
You’ve read it right – glamping is what you get when you add glamour to camping. It is very popular in Australia, since it is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the country’s natural grandeur. Don’t let the camping part of the word fool you; there will be no dirt and dust in this accommodation.
You will sleep in a luxurious air-conditioned tent with private bathroom and have access to spa treatments and gourmet meals. Although it includes all the luxury of a 5-star hotel, glamour camping is all about small-scale luxury which must not have a negative impact on nature.
Lighthouses
Perhaps not the coziest choice, lighthouses are characteristically Australian accommodation facilities. The lighthouse head keeper’s cottages usually consists of three rooms and can accommodate from two to twelve people. They’re usually old and isolated, but National Parks’ management is maintaining them well, and they reflect a rather historic and homey feel.
Besides a warm bed and local legends, lighthouse accommodation offers a fascinating beach view, bird watching, fishing, and so much more.
There’s no doubt that Australia is rich with all sorts of accommodation establishments for various needs and budgets. Some that did not make it to this list are hostels, sheep and cattle stations and Aussie pubs, but that is a topic for another article as those accomodations go beyond cozy.
